Hurley Medical Center - Emergency Department

One Hurley Plaza, Flint, Michigan

CHMP, Inc. was invited to be part of an Integrated Design Process (IDP) Team for the Design and Construction of a Thirty Million Dollar Emergency Department Expansion. Using the standards of BIM (Building Information Modeling), the Design Team (CHMP, Inc. & HDR) utilized the drawing program REVIT by Autodesk to develop a complete 3-dimension model for the structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical building systems. The Building Team members were led by Granger Construction.

This exciting project creatively addressed the many challenges faced on this project. The final solution presented an entirely new approach to the hospital; repositioning the entrance to welcome visitors from downtown Flint. This new approach included separate entrances for visitors, adult ED patients, and pediatric ED patients. Way-finding concerns were improved by repositioning the Hospital Lobby adjacent to the existing main elevators. The building exterior consisted of a bright cheerful expression using large expansions of glass, light, and airy canopy structures. This project was completed in 2010.
